Numerology

Numerology is the ancient practice of converting letters into numbers (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc), and comparing the results to uncover the hidden associations between words. Unlike modern numerology (which revolves around interpretations of individual numbers), this older form of numerology (known as isopsephia or gematria) focuses on lists of words, names, and dates whose numeric values match your own numeric value in some way.

Numerology is any of many systems, traditions or beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things. Numerology and numerological divination were popular among early mathematicians, such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics by most scientists.

Today, numerology is often associated with the occult, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. The term can also be used for those who, in the view of some observers, place excess faith in numerical patterns, even if those people don't practice traditional numerology.

Different methods of calculation exist, including Chaldean, Pythagorean, Hebraic, Helyn Hitchcock's method, Phonetic, Japanese and Indian.

One of the most common relationships of the letters and their numbers are as follows:

The Numbers for each letter are determined and then added together until a single number is achieved. The number will tell you about your inner self.

For example:

Jane Mary Doe = 1155 4197 465

1+1+5+5+4+1+9+7+4+6+5 = 48 = 12 = 3 – Total Expression/Destiny Number

1+5+1+7+6+5 = 25 = 7 – Souls Urge Number

1+5+4+9+4 = 23 = 5 – Mind/Personality Number

Desire/ Soul’s Urge:

Vowels will reveal you your innermost desires. These inner urgings are the basis of your motivation.

Mind / Personality

Consonants clothe the vowels, giving your thoughts and words form. Likewise they affect the way you act, react, and dress, and they become the 'you' that others see – your personality. It has been called Mind, Quiescent self and the Secret Self. It is your Personality that springs forth from your inner thoughts and beliefs.

Total Expression

Vowels and Consonants combined tell you what your natural abilities and talents are that will lead you to your major accomplishments. This has been called the Total Expression and - by some – Destiny.
