Have you got flaws?... Great!
[Back to Editorials]
Have you ever felt that you don't fit in today's society? Are you sick of being told that you are inadequate because you don't fit the 'perfect model'?
Well, Hello sister...
I'm not a size 4 (not even close to a 10!) and all my life I have struggled with my self image and tha fact that I could never be a size 4 - not even close to a 10!
Society and the media at large have a lot to answer for. Their image of 'tiny and flawless' is mostly unattainable for us normal people, since only 1% of the population can ever come close to that ideal. For the majority of us (including me) we struggle with daily messages of inadequacy and wonder why we're not happy.
Well, I've decided to blow a raspberry to them all. In fact, we are pretty good people. We don't hurt anyone deliberately, we take responsibility for our own actions, and we can finally be happy with who we are. It has become time to step up and say:
YES! I am not perfect at all!
YES! I am a worthwhile person!
and YES! I can enjoy life perfectly well without having to look like a catwalk model!
Having said that, of course, there is no reason not to make the best of what you have been given - whatever that may be. Stay tuned for further articles on that subject alone!
In other words:
DON'T worry about your size - DO worry about being healthy
DON'T worry about what you look like - DO worry about what you feel like.
Being healthy and feeling good are the 2 main ingredients for my kind of life. Of Course we can always improve, but being happy about ourselves is the No. 1 starting point to making your life whatever YOU want it to be.
Yes, we could probably do with a decent haircut and, yes, we could probably do with losing a few pounds, but what really matters if your husband, daughter, co-worker has a problem? What will help them? How you look, or how you listen?
By being comfortable with yourself and confident in yourself, people will be with you, or follow you, because they like YOU, not what you look like.
Being Happy attracts happiness.
Being confident attracts confidence from others.
A lot of people I know think that being a success or being happy in this life is totally dependent on the things that they own - a new house, or car, or money in the bank. I believe success and happiness is all about being and doing what you enjoy in this life and the relationships you have with other people.
I also believe that the key to that success starts with acceptance of who you are and who you can be. be what YOU can be, not what somebody else thinks you should be.
Remember - it's the flaws that make us interesting
